CORAZON AQUINO:"A woman of Courage and Faith"

Corazon Aquino or Cory as she is fondly called is the 11th president of the Republic of the Philippines as well as the first woman  president.
She was the wife of the late Senator Benigno Aquino who was assasinated  under the Marcos regime. Corazon Aquino was considered an icon of democracy and was named “Woman of the Year” in 1986 by Times Magazine.
I believe that Mrs. Aquino was able to manifest her rights once she presumed the role of being the president in 1986.  She courageously continued to assume the leadership that her husband started against the dictatorship of  the Marcos government.  She was not frightened  to run against an experienced politician and a scheming one for that matter. Cory wants to end the violence that made the Filipino people suffer. Many lives were lost, including that of her husband, due to the greediness of the late ferdinand marcos.  Reluctant at first, Cory  eventually prevailed to the people’s clamor after a million signatures was presented to her, asking her to run for candidacy. With this, she wholeheartedly fought marcos into presidency. Marcos also attacked Aquino's inexperience and warned the country that it would be a disaster if a woman like her with no previous political experience would be elected president; to which Aquino cleverly responded and sarcastically admitted that she had "no experience in cheating, lying to the public, stealing government money, and killing political opponent.
For me, what made Mrs Aquino exceptional is her dedication to relieve the Filipino people from distress and poverty. Without her heroism to continue her husband’s battle, we might still be under a government being run by a dictator.  Her love for the country enabled her to challenge and put an end to Marcos’ 20 year martial rule.
One of Aquino's first and boldest moves was the creation of the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG), which was tasked to go after the Marcos ill-gotten wealth. Mrs. Aquino, being a revolutionary president by virtue of people power, abolished the 1973 "Marcos Constitution" and dissolved the Marcos allies-dominated Batasang Pambansa, which she directed for the drafting of a new constitution for the nation.
For the economy, she  was able to pay $4 billion out of the $26 billion foreign debt that marcos left. This paved the way for the Philippines to regain good international credit ratings and attract the attention of future markets
For Agrarian reform, Corazon Aquino promulgated the “Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Law." The law paved the way for the
redistribution of agricultural lands to tenant-farmers from landowners, who were paid in exchange by the government through
just compensation but were also allowed to retain not more than five hectares of land.
There are countless contributions made by Mrs Aquino to the Filipino nation,. This was observed not only by her own
countrymen, but international leaders as well. If i may quote an excerpt from Pope Benedict XVI letter to Archbishop Rosales, he
called Mrs Aquino a woman of courage and faith because of her  “courageous commitment to the freedom of the Filipino people,
her firm rejection of violence and intolerance"

Try and Try

February 23, 2011. Ms. Noveras handed out print out copies of previous blog entries. We read each one carefully and we found out that there were numerous grammatical errors in all the paperwork. We were tasked to determine the mistakes on the entries and correct them later on. During this activity, I realized that we still have so much to learn. Composing a good blog does not only mean writing what you had in mind. Composition of a good blog means giving consideration on how well it was written. Grammar, proper use of words, subject verb agreement, and the likes must also be well thought of. This will not only benefit the author but the reader as well. For the author, reflection of how well he or she writes a composition will be recognized. For the reader, his or her interest will surface once he or she realizes the article on hand is comprehensive. To be able to be competent in composition writing, I believed that the most effective way to attain such is by practicing and most important of all is to remember all the methods and techniques being taught to us in relation to blog composition.

Unforgettable Week

February 15, 2011. The sports filled event started off with the Cheer-dance. In this event, students showcased their talents in well coordinated dance moves. All teams performed well, however there must only be one winner in this category. Judges had to decide and 3 - Leah was proclaimed the champion for this incident. Second event that took place was the modern dance competition. Although the Juniors, obviously gave their all, the championship title was not for them. The 3rd activity that took place in this fun-filled event was the ballroom dancing. For this particular category, finally, all the hard work was rewarded. III - Rachel was awarded as champions. After all the different types of dancing took place, the next two days of our Foundation week was dedicated to Ball games. Although III - Rachel lost during the game of Basketball, they emerged as champions of Volleyball. Despite the losses, heat of the sun, and tiredness evident in those who participated in the events, everyone was still in high spirits. Smiles were across their faces meaning that they were happy and satisfied of the results because they gave their very best. Team work and being good sports were obviously embedded in each and every one.

Discrimination

Discrimination is negative in its own aspect. However, for me, I could honestly say that it made me in to a better, stronger individual. This is how it happened:

When I was in grade 5, I was skinny in nature. I was being tortured emotionally by my colleagues because of my thin built. I heard hurtful words that I am not being well cared of and not being fed well. As a result i seldom get invited to join group works specially those related to sports or any other extraneous activities. Admittedly, during my younger years i really had no appetite whatsoever because i'm more focused in doing other things. Come 6th grade, i made it a point to eat regularly and finish what's on my plate. The teasing became minimal, but it did not stop. I did not pay attention to all the teasing that i received from my schoolmates, what i did is to set my mind that I can perform at par with others. Being thin, will not make me perform less that what is expected from me. When i stepped into my freshman year, nothing changed in my built despite the vitamins and increase in my food intake. What I changed was my attitude and my outlook in life. I make it a point that whatever responsibility or endeavour that will be assigned to me, I will accomplish it with flying colors. No amount of discrimination, negativity, teasing, or bullying will affect my performance as a student, or as an individual. I owe this kind of attitude to my parents, who always reminded me to be strong, no matter what it takes.

Autobiography

In my 16 years of existence, i have many experiences to share;  however, i have chosen only one relevant encounter that i want to share.

When I was in grade 3 in a school in Quezon City, I had my first encounter with this dangerous illness. I was in school when the nurse proclaimed that indeed I had dengue fever. They quickly informed my parents and I was sent home. My father immediately rushed me to the hospital from my grandparents’ home. I was crying because I thought that my mother would disregard my condition. However, after a few minutes my mom called informing us to wait for her in the hospital. She did go and it alleviated the anxiety I was feeling. After a small reunion in my hospital room, mom and dad informed that they will go out for awhile to buy us something to eat. Being alone in my room made me nervous. I felt the need to go to the washroom to urinate. I pressed on the button signaling the lobby nurse that I needed assistance. After a few tries, no one came to my aid. I had no choice. I felt so weak to stand on my own. In the end I spoiled on the sheets. When my parents arrived, I told them what happened, and they both laughed. It somehow made the situation lighter. They cleaned me up and we ate together. My dad told me not to hesitate to seek help if I feel that I need assistance. It wouldn’t make me less of a person. Under the nurturing care of my parents, in a few days, I got well and was advised by the doctor that I could go home.
Come my second year in high school, I had my second encounter with dengue and was again admitted in the hospital. However, this time my parents were so busy with our business and most of the time I was alone in my room. But due to what happened to me when I was in grade 3 and with the advice that my father gave me, I became aware of my situation. Whenever I needed something, like accompanying me to the comfort room, adjusting the room temperature, etc., I see to it that I asked for help. What my father thought me, built my confidence in myself. That there's nothing wrong in asking for help provided it’s in the right context and is not abusive of others.
